Smiths Concrete Quality Controlled Sand & Cement Mixes
Smiths Concrete produces Sand and Cement to be supplied semi-dry by tipper to your site
Various Sand and Cements are produced to meet most building requirements.
(3-1) Sand and Cement Mixes - Typically used for industrial and heavy domestic purposes.
(4-1) Sand and Cement Mixes - Typically used for general household purposes.
Polypropylene Fibres - These can be added to the above mixes to help overcome the traditional difficulties associated with ensuring the reinforcing mesh is placed at the correct depth. Fibres can substitute the use of crack control mesh and are mixed into the load at the plant, ensuring an even distribution of fibres.
Early Set (E.S. Sand and Cement) - A specialist Sand and Cement admixture to achieve faster strength gain and quicker drying times. Retardation working times are reduced. For further information, please contact our technical or sales department.
A quality controlled product over traditional Sand and Cement, produced from our computer batched mortar plant, giving better durability.
It is possible, with prior notification, to collect Sand and Cement from our Bubbenhall plant near Coventry. Please contact our order office for more information
Please allow 24 hours notice for deliveries, although it may be possible to supply at shorter periods of notice. Sand and Cement is supplied by volume and one cubic metre of Smiths Sand and Cement weighs 2.2 tonnes. Delivery is by tipper at a semi-dry consistency onto a clean hard-standing or plastic sheet.
Smiths Sand and Cement are retarded for up to 12 hours from the time of loading. E.S. Sand and Cements have a reduced retardation of up to 8 hours.
All Sand and Cements are designed to be laid as the base material on which the finished covering is to be applied (ie tiles or carpet).
Any surface to which Smiths Sand and Cement is to be applied must be clean, free from dust and structurally sound, in order that the Sand and Cement can bond effectively.
When laying Sand and Cement, proper compaction using a heavy tamp or weighted roller in layers is important. This ensures full compaction and prevents problems. The surface should be finished with a steel trowel or float, avoiding excessive trowelling which can lead to dusting and even crazing on the surface.
In accordance with good site practice, the finished Sand and Cement should be protected to aid curing, typically using a plastic sheet. Always protect Sand and Cement from extremes of weather conditions, both before and after placing.
Wherever possible, Sand and Cement should be left for at least 7 days after laying, but light foot traffic may be possible after 2 days.
HEALTH & SAFETY
All Sand and Cements are abrasive and alkaline. Contact can cause skin disease and cement burns. Adequate protection must be worn to protect those in direct contact with the product. Please consult our Health & Safety data sheets.
